The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s Energy Programs Office, the State Energy Office, announced that its Shared Energy Manager Program helped local governments in the state save over $2.8 million in energy bills in 2024.
The Shared Energy Manager program, using U.S. State Energy Program funds, helps local governments hire engineers to identify and implement energy savings opportunities in buildings. The engineering firm provides assistance with implementing energy savings projects, sustainability and resiliency projects, and renewable energy projects on local government properties. They also provide additional services, such as benchmarking, facility assessments, feasibility studies, and vehicle fleet conversions. In 2024, 22 local governments in the state participated in the program.
Applications for the 2025 program are open to local governments or regional planning organizations in the state. More information on the Shared Energy Manager program can be found here, and interested parties can apply for the program here.
