Maine Launches Home Energy Rebate Program

Source: NASEO

The Maine Governor’s Energy Office launched the first phase of its Home Energy Rebates (HER) program on September 18, 2024.

Initially, the HER program will prioritize affordable multifamily new construction projects and manufactured housing for low-income owners, or households earning below 80 percent Area Median Income (AMI). Qualified households will be able to apply for a maximum of $14,000 in rebates up to $8,000 for heat pumps for space heating and cooling, $4,000 for electrical panels, and $2,500 for electrical wiring. After the first year, rebates for manufactured homes will be expanded to moderate-income homeowners whose household income is between 80 to 150 percent AMI. Maine’s HER program will be implemented by Efficiency Maine, a quasi-state agency that plans and implements energy efficiency programs.
